A little illustration and logo for my Electro / Hip Hop night down here in Cornwall. I've been wanted to create a character with a nice big gold chain for a while now and, since creating the image for Block Interactive (in the Portfolio,) I have been enjoying using super bright colours so this seemed the perfect opportunity. It's something that six months ago I would never of imagined I would do.

There's also some super subtle flat coloured 3D work in this image too, something I have been experimenting with recently! More on that soon...

P.s the prints at my exhibition are selling nicely so if you want one don't leave it too long!

Having already written a bit about the exhibition It makes it touch difficult to change the name of it without anyone noticing... I guess I could have just edited the posts and pretended it was always called Twelve (I was sorely tempted to) but I know the sticklers for detail out there would have pulled me up about it!

So anyway we have changed the name from Editions of Six to Twelve.

But why i hear you gasp?

Well we ended up getting twelve of each image printed (rather than six and so it seemed a bit cheeky calling it Editions of Six. So the negative, if you can call it that, is the name change. The positives are that there will be more prints available and they will be cheaper. Yay!

Heres a couple of pics of the signage in the gallery. First time i have used real paint since the previous debacle! Oh and thats Pg (the gallery owner) in the photos...

Exhibition Time

Bank holiday weekend is almost upon us (again - they seem to be like buses) but just got time to show you a wee poster. I have been invited to put some work in a local exhibition of contemporary artists and illustrators and so here is my submission:

I know what your thinking where are the hands or bulldog clips holding it up. As anyone in the know knows posters and bulldog clips are so last year, this year the trend is photographing stuff in your garden with your phone so that the size cannot be determined!

It's 50 cm x 70 cm and is number One of a possible 20.

Each will be printed on demand which means no wasted paper. If you fancy buying one drop me an email and we'll see what we can work out. Or if your in Falmouth pop into the Q-bar on the Moor and take a peek for yourself.

On a related note I also have a solo exhibition coming up in the Soup Gallery in Truro with some more limited edition prints.

Busy Busy Busy

Lots of interesting projects going on down here and it's sunny at last - That means evening bike rides! Whizzed through some bluebell covered woods a couple of evening ago... living away from the urban sprawl certainly has advantages!

Hopefully there will be an update to the portfolio soon. In the meantime here is some bits and bobs I have been playing around with...

A wee logo for a music night I am trying to put together...

...and a possible replacement for the reverse image on my invoice.

Not much to say about that other than it's a pirate and it's always worth drawing a pirate.

Colorful Illustrations 93°C

I've just been told by Darren Di Lieto (of Little chimp Society and Hire an Illustrator) illustrators (including myself) have had their work pinched and then published in a book, along with the interview I did with LCS a while back.

Most of the work seems to have been pinched from my own website, which i guess could serve me right for putting big-ish images on it, but more annoying i now have to work out whether to try to combat this with some clever web tech. or use dreaded watermarks.... something I have aways been against.

Still not sure what to do about it (the flattery of being included amongst other greats has warn off) but felt the need to warn folks not to buy it. As Darren mentioned "Someone has made a lot of money from this book and it wasn’t me or the unknowing contributors. So please do not buy it!"

A Quick Update

I just updated the main portfolio section of the site with some new work for a new clothing company (hoof), a Theatre group Phoenix), a Web Development company (Thinking Differently), a lovely magazine (Waitrose Food Illustrated) and some personal bits (For Me.) You may have noticed there has been a change taking place with my work.

For the last couple of months or so I have been doing more simple colour illustrations. The new work has less detail, but hopefuly better concepts and more vibrant colour palettes. (I am currently fascinated with two-three colour images!)

- As they say less is more.

I imagine this is probably far too late to say Happy New Year, so it's probably best to try and sneak into the new year without really mentioning it... Oh, hang on... hmmm well ok then, Happy New Year!

It's been all quiet on the blog front for a while, I've been super busy with various design related bits and bobs. just putting the finishing touches to an update to the portfolio, which should appear in the next couple of days.

I meant to post this last week when I received them, but got super busy and didn't have time to post about it! I recently got delivery of some double sided A2 posters for self promotion. They are currently winging their way across the country, but thought I would let you know that a couple will soon be available to buy. I'll let you know when they are available. Its a limited run of 50 and won't be printed again, so you better be ready to pick one up. They are guaranteed* to be worth loads of money.

Just a quick post to mention my work (The Dancing Boom Box) is up in the Royal College of Art as part of the YCN at RCA exhibition. I am nestled in amongst lots of great illustrators and designers on the Image makers wall. It looks to be a great show...

The exhibitions on until the 3rd of September, so thats... umm... tommorow! (sorry about the late post)

Jaguar Skills vs My Broken Shoe

Just finished an image for the Infamous DJ - Jaguar Skills, I don't get to draw Ninja's enough so this was ideal.

Jaguar Skills was the man who did the much acclaimed '1979-2006 Hip-Hop Odyssey.' If you are into your Hip Hop you need to check it out... 800 tracks in 45mins! Infact you should have a listen to his remixes and tracks too, especially 'We On' a current studio favourite.

No need to say why the record there, but the mini discs make an a pparence as His first album was created using three Minidisc Walkman's, crazyness...

Badge Button Pin

Keep a eye out for Badge Button Pin, written by Gavin Lucas and designed by Nathan Gale. It feature great badges by the likes of Airside, Build, Eboy and *cough* Me *cough* to name a few.

It's the first book I have been featured in and I'm pretty chuffed that it's such a nice one and that I'm nestled amongst so many design greats!

The sun's finally out, maybe summers here! Nice timing too as I've just finished giving My Broken Shoe a fresh lick of paint... or I guess, pixels. Hopefully it's a bit more friendly in feel, light and airy. Everything is pretty much in the same place so links should work but if you come across any hiccups feel free to drop me a mail or pop a comment in here.

To make up for the pitiful last post here is a work in progress.

I am trying to sort out a series of seaside postcards (being that I live by the seaside, it seemed a good place to start), both as promo and to sell in shops. Here is the first. I think it will change as I render it in, my self promotional work always does. so it will be interesting to compare this with how it turns out.
